Big Dipper

The Big Dipper constellation, part of The Great Bear. Mount Isa is just far enough north to be able to see this Northern Hemisphere constellation graze our north horizon.

Walk

I recently took a drive south of Mount Isa and we went for a walk up this ridge. The view from the top was worth the effort of getting there. Video panorama on youtube here.

Oil Age

An old oil drum that has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Old Junk

At an old mine digging site near Mica Creek you can find this piece of old iron. This is only about ten kilometres out of town toward Dajarra.

Iron Oxide

If you look closely you'll find a little red dragonfly hovering in this shot from near the water.

Waterhole

The view of the not so high leap at the Poison Waterhole, due to the big wet season. You may like to compare it to this photo from a previous post. In the latest photo the water level is barely a metre below the rock, compared to nearly 10m in the early photo 2 years ago.

International Space Station

The International Space Station flew over on Sunday evening. The remarkable thing is that at just 350km altitude, the space station came closer to us here in Mount Isa than it is to drive to most major towns nearby.

Jupiter

A fuzzy Jupiter as seen from Mount Isa. This was a stack of frames from a handheld movie afocal, which is why it is not good quality. I was impressed with the simplicity of the stacking program Lynkeos.

Eighty-Five

This year is 85 years since Mount Isa Mines was first opened here. On the old headframe you can see this logo to commemorate the occasion.

Mount Isan Home

My Mount Isan home at night from the lookout. I like the bright lights and tail light trails.

Orion

The easily recognisable constellation of Orion the hunter. Even from my front yard the sky was dark enough to take this photo - untracked. If you look closely you will see the slight star trails. This is a 15 second exposure.
