Moondarra Sunset

An evening painted sky at Lake Moondarra as I was on my way to astronomy last night.  Unfortunately it was not a good night for star gazing.  However, coming up on June 6 is a transit of Venus across the sun. A significant astronomical event.  Keep your eye out for more news here on this blog, and hopefully some video footage too.

And now for something completely different.  A breaking wave near King's Beach Caloundra.

Dr Who?

Near the George Fisher mine just outside town is this utility box that some person has cleverly painted.  It would appear that Dr Who has landed in Mount Isa and, needing some extra power for the Tardis, has erected a solar panel to collect the abundant sunlight.

Ships Of The Desert

During my sleep at Lily campsite some ships of the desert passed silently in the night.  I awoke to find that I had been visited by some camels and all I got was this photo of their footprints.

Lily Waterhole

This was the picturesque Lily Waterhole as the sun was setting.  There were no water lilies in sight.

Camping

On my way to the Gregory Canoe Race I pulled up to camp near a place called Lily Waterhole.  This was the view of the full moon rising from my campsite.

Negotiating A Rapid

Not everyone made it through the first hazard still dry.  Then again, the race is all about having a go and enjoying the paddle.  There is always more than one way to negotiate a hazard.

Gregory Canoe Race

Sunday morning was the start of the annual Gregory Canoe Race. I went along to check it out. This was the first small rapid about 20 meters after the start line.

Dangerous Forests

One must be careful of the dangers of rainforests.  This stinging tree has large leaves with fine hairs that stick into your skin and cause lots of pain, even when the leaves are dead.  This is on the Fig Tree Walk near Little Yabba Creek.

Yabba Dabba Doo

Little Yabba Creek near Kenilworth is a great place to visit.  There is this beautiful picnic site and a great walk through the forest close by.

Water Feature

Water features are one of my favourite type of features.  This one is in the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane.  Appropriately, the artworks levitating above the water are fishing nets from Indigenous groups across Australia.

Art Gallery

One of my favourite installations at the Brisbane Art Gallery. This is the one scene I always like to see when I visit Brisbane.  This time I was finally able to catch a photograph to do it justice.
