Big Dry

Usually this time of year in Mount Isa the dam is nearly filled or overflowing after a big monsoon wet season. This year the rains have not come yet and the dam is currently less than 65% capacity.

A little ray of sunshine, has broken through the clouds.

Crab

A surprisingly large freshwater crab attempts to hide from view in a small waterhole at Warrigal Creek.

Mail Box

Driving around Queensland you will find some remarkable mail boxes. This one is particularly detailed, right down to the pot plants by the front door.

Outback Storm

An outback electrical storm races past Barcaldine toward Ilfracombe. I had a very lucky vantage point at my campsite beside the Landsborough Highway. This is a timelapse photograph, as not all these lightning strikes occurred simultaneously.

Teewah Beach DI

Lighthouse

The Double Island Point lighthouse.  This place has always held a certain mystery for me.  It is one of the significant landmarks and weather stations from which observations are made and wind warnings are provided. I remember always listening to the radio and TV weather reports when I was a younger, avid windsurfer, waiting to hear strong wind warnings from Double Island Point to Cape Moreton.  That meant there was good windsurfing to be had at Caloundra or Mooloolaba.  Now I've seen this famed spot from my youth, one more to go - Cape Moreton lighthouse.

Walk

A signpost on the walk at Double Island Point.  The views from the top are spectacular and well worth going on another 380m to the lighthouse.

White-faced Heron

During my platypus shoot yesterday I was also able to photograph this water bird while waiting for the platypus to resurface.  The White-faced Heron or Egretta Novaehollandiae is very common around the Sunshine Coast (Trevor Ford, "Waterbirds and Raptors of Coastal South East Queensland)

Sunset

Beautiful sunsets are always worth watching.  Whether on the coast at a beach or in central Australian deserts, each have their own unique flavours. In this case it was the last sunset of 2012 seen from Mooloolaba.
