Camels

IMGP3996

Some of the wild camels that populate the desert here. Originally imported into Australia in pioneering days to help transport goods and people, feral camels now roam freely around the countryside. Many towns now make use of the camels by taming some and running camel races. These camels were on the dry river bed of the East Leichhardt.

Valley

IMGP3995

The East Leichhardt River flows through the Leichhardt dam on it's way north. This photo looks toward the south-east. The permanent trickle of water means there is a lush green valley and fauna from all around the area can find a watering hole here.

The Road To East Leichhardt Dam

IMGP3993

The road to East Leichhardt dam has been graded recently and is in fairly good condition. It can be negotiated by a two wheel drive vehicle - with care. After any rain however, a 4wd would be needed.

Grass In The Wind

IMGP3754

There was a moderate breeze when I took this photo and the spinifex stems were leaning gently under the load.

Lake Moondarra Outback Park

IMGP3739

This is another view of Lake Moondarra. The water level is getting low if you look at the dam wall closely. This is part of the 'Wallaby Walk' series of photos you will see over the next few days.
