Camooweal Hall

IMGP4174

The Camooweal Town Hall. Built in 1923, it is a classic old wood building with mortise and tenon joints in the solid doors and windows and exposed external frame in the German style.

The road goes on and on behind you out here with no one in sight.

Old and New

IMGP4121

On the right is the old undulating single lane highway from Mount Isa to Camooweal. On the left is the new highway. Luckily for the cyclists in the Border Run charity ride they don't have to use the old road.

Border Run Charity Cycle

IMGP4137

This weekend I did some support driving for a cycle team doing the first Border Run. It was a ride for multiple charity organisations, leaving from Mount Isa and riding to the Queensland - Northern Territory border. All up approximately 202 kilometres. Most teams took turns riding and resting, but some tough souls cycled the whole distance.

Brophy's

IMGP4085

The Mount Isa Rodeo is famous for this attraction. Fred Brophy's boxing. The Brophy team of boxers is paraded and challengers from the audience invited to select an opponent. This is one of the last places in Australia to allow this form of entertainment.

Walk

IMGP4029

We got out of the 4wd and walked. This was too steep for anything but serious offroad vehicles.

Lush

A lush valley provided by the trickle of water from the dam. This looks in the opposite direction to yesterday's photo.

Canoeing

IMGP4013

A nice place for some people who were going canoeing. What this picture can't tell you is that the air was about 12 degrees and the water around 16 degrees (that's a guesstimate). With a windchill in the cool breeze, I would not want to be getting wet.
