SpaceX Dragon Launch

The SpaceX Dragon capsule carried two astronauts to space. Fittingly it was atop a fire breathing rocket. Quite an amazing achievement.

228 Knots 34 Ply 6 Landings

Some pretty amazing specs on these tyres for the Space Shuttle. 228 Knots is around 440km/hr, that's fast, no wonder so many plys are needed to hold the tyre together.

Frangible Nuts

These nuts and bolts are what hold the Space Shuttle to the launch pad until the engines and boosters have ignited. Once the thrust is ramped up, the explosives are triggered and the nuts fracture allowing the shuttle to be released for launch.

Memory, What Memory?

This is a photo of the Memory Module used on the Saturn V launch rocket. The module on the left has 14 of the memory 'array chips' on the right. The thing is, each of those ferrite core wire arrays only has 1024 bits of memory available. That's just one kilobyte - and it's about the size of my phone. Technology has come a long way in just 50 years, imagine what the next 50 will bring.

Moon Landing 50 Years

The 50th Anniversary of the NASA Moon Landing, an exhibition at the Queensland Museum. Definitely worth a visit if you can make it to Brisbane before the exhibition closes on the 9th of October.
