English Hill

Stone fences, moss, sheep, trees. Could only be England.

A hill in the Lakes District with a stone fence, some trees, green grass, sheep and bits of blue sky.

Lakes Snow

Snow on my little white Fiat in Windermere! No one said I'd have to negotiate snowy roads in the lakes district. Just as well I have 20hrs on a snowmobile, this will be easy.

After the arctic ice of Svalbard I did not expect to see snow in England. However, one morning in the lakes district near Windermere I awoke to this beautiful scene. Snow on my little white Fiat hire car. That was special.

Svalbard Land

Flight five of many. Fare Ye well Svalbard land.

Unfortunately I had to leave the arctic wilderness of Spitzbergen behind and make my way back to some warmer climes.  Scotland us positively balmy at 5 degrees.

Snow Cabin

A cabin in the snow

A cabin in the snow for the weekend? You can book these cabins across Spitzbergen and spend some time in the wilderness. This was on the trail from Longyearbyen to Isfjordradio.

Phone Home

Yep, it's a radio station. Good Morning Svalbard!

Good morning Isfjordradio! The morning view after arriving at the Isfjord Radio station on a Basecamp Explorer expedition to see the total solar eclipse of March 20, 2015.

Arctic Water

Arctic water

The arctic waters of Svalbard, 1300 kilometres from the North Pole. It is definitely cold up here. And a long way north. And an almost literal polar opposite to Mount Isa.

Frozen Pipe

Arctic Skate Pipe

Even in a remote location 78 degrees above the equator, one can find a skate park. This is my most unexpected find in Longyearbyen on the Svalbard Islands of Norway.

At Sea

Ship all at sea

A ship, all at sea as it cruises up the Kawana coastline on a clear evening.

A Journey

Flight one of many

As the saying goes, even the biggest journey begins with a single step. In this case a single flight from Mount Isa to Brisbane. In the days ahead I should arrive on location in time to see a total solar eclipse.

Dishes

Dishes

Doing the dishes can have different meanings. In this case it means taking a photo of the communication dishes.
