Leap Photo

A rare photo for a rare day. On this 29'th day of February I thought it appropriate to share a view that one does not often see when one lives in Mount Isa. The beach. This is at Rowes bay in Townsville.

Celestial Conjunction

A conjunction of four celestial bodies as seen from Mount Isa. They are, from top to bottom, Jupiter, Moon, Venus and Earth.

Superseded

A windmill has been superseded by a solar panel and an electric pump at this remote waterhole on Cattle Creek.

Fifth Birthday Post

It took me a while to decide what photo I would share on the fifth birthday of my Outback Rover blog. In the end it was simple, go with the photo of my favourite location. And this is it. Rigby falls.
One has to be lucky to catch this place in its full water soaked beauty. The opportunity to see this view only happens a few times a year during a suitable wet season. This was from 2009, my first visit to the falls.

Battle Mountain

I went searching for Battle Mountain and found it.  This is the site of the battle in 1884 that destroyed the Kalkadoon resistance near Mount Isa.  In an often repeated story in history, rocks and spears are no match for bullets.

Ridge

A prominent ridge beside a track halfway to Kajabbi. There is some amazingly wonderful scenery around here, but often you have to go off the beaten track to find it. Next time I'll bring you a photo from the top of this ridge.

Fish In The Field

An art installation at Rowes Bay in Townsville. These fish were swimming toward the waterline.

Wakeboarder

A popular activity at the lake is wakeboarding.  This boat is all set to go.

Boat Ride

I was lucky enough to get a ride on the lake in a great little alloy fishing boat.  Of course I had to take my camera with me, I was not going to miss showing you all the lake from a new perspective.

Paddle For Play

A canoe regatta on an early Sunday morning at the lake.

East Leichhardt Waterhole

A quiet waterhole on the East Leichhardt River.  On another note, this is the 1000'th post since I started this blog nearly five years ago.  Outback Rover's 5'th birthday is coming up soon too.

A field of Spinifex grass grows tall in the wide brown land near Mount Isa.
