Nature

A wonderful nature drive through the varied terrain of Lochern National Park. In some places it feels like you are in the middle of an untouched habitat as it would have looked thousands of years ago. It is well worth the two hour drive for this loop.

Star Trail Mirror

Star trails and flashes of moonlight as thin clouds pass in front of the crescent Moon and scatter the light into a bright halo. And reflected almost perfectly in the still water of the Broadwater Waterhole Billabong are the Moon, Venus and stars.

Capricorn

Longreach lies on the the Tropic of Capricorn line that circles the globe. The sun will pass directly overhead here in December each year as the Earth follows its orbit with an axis tilted at 23.5 degrees from the orbital plane. This line also separates the Torrid Zone from the Temperate Zone.

The beautiful Longreach Railway Station building has a classic old timber post arrangement that pleases the eye.
