BF Goodrich Tyre

BF Goodrich

This tyre must have seen all six of its landings as the plys are certainly worn from use. Who knew that BF Goodrich tyres had a history of aviation? Apparently it all started with the first tyre supplied to the Model A Ford and then the first non-stop Trans-Atlantic Crossing by Charles Lindbergh, then naturally, the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1981. A real all terrain tyre.

228 Knots 34 Ply 6 Landings

34 Ply 228 Knots

Some pretty amazing specs on these tyres for the Space Shuttle. 228 Knots is around 440km/hr, that's fast, no wonder so many plys are needed to hold the tyre together.

Frangible Nuts

Frangible Nuts

These nuts and bolts are what hold the Space Shuttle to the launch pad until the engines and boosters have ignited. Once the thrust is ramped up, the explosives are triggered and the nuts fracture allowing the shuttle to be released for launch.

Memory, What Memory?

Memory Module

This is a photo of the Memory Module used on the Saturn V launch rocket. The module on the left has 14 of the memory 'array chips' on the right. The thing is, each of those ferrite core wire arrays only has 1024 bits of memory available. That's just one kilobyte - and it's about the size of my phone. Technology has come a long way in just 50 years, imagine what the next 50 will bring.

Paper Beats Rock

Paper Beats Rock

In a real life struggle for dominance in the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, it is clear that paper really does beat rock as this example shows. This is at Little Rocky Creek near Landsborough.

Kookaburra

Kookaburra

One thing about living in a tiny home is how close you can get to nature. This kookaburra was sitting just outside my bathroom window barely a metre away.

Space Poop

Space Poop

A model of the toilet on the Space Shuttle on display at the Queensland Museum. I can imagine the things going around an astronaut's head when they use this facility, "That's one small poop for man, one giant poop for mankind."

Glasshouse Chain

A collection of individual Glasshouse Mountains. A mountain group perhaps, or a chain of volcanic plugs and intrusions.
