Rockit Climbing Gym

My last wall climbing session for a while at Rockit before moving to Western Queensland in the very near future.

Zeitgeist Tibrogargan

A good friend took me up Zeitgest on Mount Tibrogargan. It's been a long while since I've climbed outdoors and my endurance was lacking, so I seconded the 3 pitches. It is a spectacular climb with the first crux on pitch 1 rated at 17. A few tricky moves here caused me to take a couple rests before solving it. The remainder was pretty straight forward and rewarding to arrive on top of Cave 1 on the east face. This was looking up the first pitch from anchor 1.

Kangaroo Point Cliffs

The Kangaroo Point Cliffs on the south bank of the Brisbane River. This was one of the first places I began to learn about the sport of rock climbing.

Girraween Boulder

A Girraween boulder at the Sphinx formation in Girraween National Park. Apparently there is a route up this face.

Cave 4

This photo looks back the other way to where yesterday's photo was taken from. This shows some more of the scale of Cave 4 on Tibrogargan. Just behind this photo is the start of a climb called Prometheus II that leads directly up into Cave 5.

Girraween Shark

The Shark's Fin shard of granite in Girraween National Park. Quite a spectacular feature, I'll need to improve some skills before ascending this one.

Turtle And Sphynx

A recent climbing trip took me to Girraween National Park. This is a photo of Turtle Rock on the left and the Sphynx on the right as seen from a slab near the Shark's Fin crag on the Mount Norman track.

Relief

That is me and a face of happiness and relief of having passed the crux move on Icehouse, knowing that I'm actually going to reach the top.

Icehouse Trad Climb

Today I climbed Icehouse on belay after Sandro did all the hard work of leading and protecting the climb. This is a classic climb on Ngungun's upper cliffs, grade 16, plenty of jugs but 45 metres is a long way up. I was struggling in a few moments and I wasn't even having to place gear. Thanks for putting in the hard yakka Sandro.

Happy Leap Year

Today only comes around once every 4 years. February 29. A human system imposes an order that nature does not quite match, so we smear the result a little every now and then to keep things in step. This photo was from a while ago when I went to visit the Coolum Cave Sendfest. There were two young brothers being guided up a climb on the morning I visited and it reminded me of my own brother, who just so happens to have a birthday on the 29th of February.

Beerwah Cliff

The main cliff face on Beerwah. It is tall and steep, all the way up.

Beerwah Bolt Route

The start of the Beerwah Bolt Route Aid climb. The bolts have been replaced with stainless in the years since I last visited.

Top Rope Solo

Have been trying out some top rope solo techniques at Ngungun. This was on Owl Pillar, a nice little over vertical section with some good fun climbing.

Ngungun Car Park

When I arrived this morning to do some climbing at Ngungun there were cars all the way up past the white Subaru. The most overflowing I have ever seen the carpark here. It is a popular spot, and with good reason, the climbing is great and varied and there's a great walk with a beautiful view at the top.

Lower Cliff

The Lower Cliffs on Mount Ngungun are an easy access climbing area with some neat little projects to work on.

Owl Pillar

The Owl Pillar (formerly Malcolm's Pillar) at the lower cliffs on Ngungun. This will be my next climbing project.
