New Year Fall

The new year rains also sent water off the edge of the Jump-Up and the Diamantinasaurus Falls once again flowed. I couldn't miss the chance to capture this one again.

Rockhole Falls

New Year's Day brought another downpour, 144mm of rain. And this time I made long walk in the rain and mud to the rockholes. At the end of the rockholes of course the water falls of the edge of the Jump-Up. So I had to capture this one first thing in the morning while the rain was still falling to maintain the flow.

Returning to Winton with a green crop of grasses well fed by the wet season.

Dry Outback Creek

Orchid

An orchid grwoing in a Moreton Bay Fig Tree. My mother attached this orchid to the tree many years ago and it has been slowly taking hold. This year was the largest bloom I have seen, most likely from the long wet seasons due to consecutive La Nina episodes.

Outback View

The view from the top of a small range of hills halfway between Gunpowder and Kajabbi. The terrain is green and lush after the recent wet.

Rock

Some smooth rock at Rigby Falls that has been worn by water each time the rains fall. Unfortunately there has been no wet season this year, or last, to help continue the polishing of the rock.

November Sky

An overcast sky in November indicates the wet season has almost arrived in Mount Isa. Unfortunately the rain it contains is still very minimal.

Fifty

A weekend paddle at the lake revealed the water level is now just under 50% capacity. Hopefully we get some rain soon, as the year is very long and the next wet season is not until November.

Big Dry

Usually this time of year in Mount Isa the dam is nearly filled or overflowing after a big monsoon wet season. This year the rains have not come yet and the dam is currently less than 65% capacity.

Warrigal Torrent

A torrent of water streams into the Warrigal Waterhole during a rain storm. Mount Isa currently has a monsoon depression crossing the region causing a great deal of rain and making it possible to see some of the features around town in a different state to the usual trickle.

Nearly Full

The Lake nears full capacity as the wet season in Mount Isa nears its end.

Crossing Flooded

The Leichhardt River Road crossing and other low river crossings like it are regularly closed when the wet season comes.

Lawn
