Burnt Forest
A section of burnt forest in the Yellowstone National Park. A very large wildfire or bushfire swept through sections of the park back in 1988. The remnants of that fire are still visible today some 30 years later.

Bacterial Mats
One thing that surprised me about Yellowstone was the different lifeforms that occupied the hot and steamy waters that bubbled out of the Earth's crust. This is one small example of a mat of colourful bacteria that happily live on the fringe of a geyser pool. There are so many colours of bacteria and each colour indicates a species of bacteria that can thrive at different temperatures.

Museum
A visit to the Queensland Museum always brings something new. This photo of a photo of a painting of a scene helps to bring Australia's ancient past to life. It certainly would have been very different having land animals as human predators in Australia. Camping would not have been quite so carefree with giant carnivorous animals roaming the outback.

Brisbane River View
A visit to Brisbane to catch up with some old friends brought me to my favourite public transport method, the CityCat Ferry.

Star Rise
The stars are barely visible here fighting against the light of the near full Moon. The moonlight is so bright it scatters in the air and makes a near daytime appearance of the evening sky. In this image looking south above a young Bunya Pine is the Eta Carina nebula and toward the right, the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Lizard Creek Camp
My Lizard Creek Camp site in the Mont Moondance 1, an awesome compact tent for travel and hiking. This was my first experience with bear resistant food stores and camping in the rain in Wyoming. A beautiful little piece of paradise.
