Bribie Forts

Near the northern tip of Bribie Island are the last remains of old World War 2 fortifications. This one is slowly being swalloed by the sea and denotes the most northern beach access point for 4wd vehicles.

A quiet afternoon spent sitting by the water at Inskip Point does wonders for the soul.

Showground

I went to the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds to see the 4WD, Camping, Boating and Fishing Show. This was the first time I've been to the showgrounds in at least 15 years and I saw this cool sign and had to capture it.

Red Rover Adventure

Another trail to explore further around the Isa. The trails are almost never ending, and often very steep and potentially dangerous. Always explore sections on foot if you're unsure of the terrain ahead.

Exploring

Exploring the country in a four wheel drive is one of the great freedoms that Australia offers.

Drone

A ubiquitous sight at many large events these days is the drone camera. I snapped this one catching some footage of the four wheel drives climbing Big Red.

Hill Climb

Doing a bit of four wheel driving around Lake Moondarra.

Paroo Creek

A big 4WD makes short work of little creek crossings.

Small Gorge

The trail also led to this wonderful and cool gorge with a small creek carved through the hill.

End Of The Line

The trail abruptly ended. There was no going further by vehicle.

An Easier Trail

An alternative path up and over the hill that the Suzuki could do. And the track kept going off into the distance.

Loose Track

A hill the Suzuki could not climb. Lots of loose rock and attempts by previous 4wd's had torn the track up. Despite the appearance, this hill is very steep and the rut on the left of the track was almost half a metre deep. Three dimensions are not very well represented in 2D photographs.

Chasing Trails

This afternoon I went chasing trails through the bush in the Suzuki. I came to the top of a small hill and kept going off into the distance.

Engine Guard

A very important tool for exploring the outback is a well protected 4wd. I just installed a new guard from outdoor auto on my car to replace the plastic splashguards which had been torn off in some mud. Now it's ready for just about anything the desert can throw at it.
