Burning Horse

The Horsehead (Barnard 33) and Flame (NGC 2024) nebulae together with Alnitak. My best image so far of this wonderful region of sky. Taken with red, green and blue filters on a monochrome miniCam8. Also my first colour image from filters, possibly my first proper astrophotograph. It still needs more time and effort to develop into a propper image (if you go pixel peeking there is too much noise). But I am happy with this effort from my trusty old TeleVue60is refractor. And of course, the SetiAstro Pro processing software from Franklin Marek, best open source astro software on the planet.

New Year Fall

The new year rains also sent water off the edge of the Jump-Up and the Diamantinasaurus Falls once again flowed. I couldn't miss the chance to capture this one again.

Rockhole Falls

New Year's Day brought another downpour, 144mm of rain. And this time I made long walk in the rain and mud to the rockholes. At the end of the rockholes of course the water falls of the edge of the Jump-Up. So I had to capture this one first thing in the morning while the rain was still falling to maintain the flow.

Diamantinasaurus Falls

A wonderful Christmas present for Christmas morning on December 25, 2025. A large fall of rain allowed the falls to flow so I had to capture the event from the bottom of the falls, covered in water spray and mist among the cycads of the cretaceous garden.

Eremophila Garden

A lover of deserts, eremophila thrive here on the Jump-Up at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum.

Western River

Somewhere ahead there is a submerged cattle grid. It was been swallowed by the Western River 12km south of Winton at the base of the Jump-Up Dark-Sky Sanctuary.

Ankylosaur Rain

It's raining ankylosaurs! No not really, but they do seem to pop up out of nowhere sometimes. Here are two in Dinosaur Canyon at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum.

Rockholes Cascade

Near the far end of the Jump-Up where public don't get to see, there are a series of rockholes that cascade to the edge of the Jump-Up. At the end, another waterfall will be revealed tomorrow.

Britton Way Falls

Waterfall number two from New Year's Day. The falls at the big bend in Britton Way. Quite a torrent here.

Deep Gully Falls

And what a wet start it has been, 144mm of rain in 24 hours on the Jump-Up. So with a day off I decided to go chasing waterfalls. This was number one, the falls running down Deep Gully.
