Box Hole Crater

The Box Hole meteorite crater off the Binns Track in the Northern Territory, north of Alice Springs.

Camp Three

The third night was a camp out at the Henbury Meteorite Crater Reserve. It has become one of my favourite spots to camp and walk the crater rim.

Camp One

On a trip into the Northern Territory along the side of the Plenty Highway it was time to camp. This was camp one for the road trip.

Border Crossing

Crossing the border into the Territory along the Plenty Highway is a great shortcut to Alice Springs.

Serendipitous

A serendipitous discovery at the Cloncurry tourist centre and Mary Kathleen museum. This rock may be a piece of the original meteorite chain that hit at the Henbury impact site in the Northern Territory. The last place I would have expected to make such a find.

Aputula Finke

The town of Finke or Aputula in the Northern Territory was a marker on a route in to the old Ghan Heritage way south toward the Mount Dare Station in South Australia.

Road Trip

A recent road trip brought me into the Northern Territory of Australia. A beautiful place with many things to see.

Star Pool

An impression of the stars partly reflected in a turkey's nest dam on Kalala station near Daly Waters in the Northern Territory. It was perfect timing for a trip to the Territory for astro shots in dark skies with a new Moon setting early.

Silhouette

The same termite mound as yesterday's post in silhouette. You'll notice the star trails are shorter. This is as long as I could get without any passing vehicle lights in the shot. It still makes for a nice shot but I prefer to see longer arcs.

Termite Trails

Star Camp

Camped out in the Northern Territory waiting for the World Solar Challenge cars to arrive the next morning gave me an opportunity for some astronomy.

World Solar Challenge

Team Nuon Solar from the Netherlands leads the World Solar Challenge on Day 2 of the race from Darwin to Adelaide. The driver even gave us a thumbs up as he drove past.

Shortly after leaving Camooweal you reach the Queensland, Northern Territory border. We stopped for the obligatory photo.

Road Trip

This was the view out the front on a recent road trip holiday I made with my parents and sister in the June - July school holidays. I've been delayed posting these photos due to a failed hard drive. The drive is replaced thanks to a youtube how-to and I can now show you all the photos.
