Partial Solar Eclipse

The partial solar eclipse was visible from Mount Isa this afternoon at sunset.

Remarkable View

This is the view from Battle Mountain, also known as Mount Remarkable. It is a spectacular view and there is a stone circle memorial on top, to remember those who died here. This place should be a National Park on the World Heritage list.

Parking Spot

A recent trip to Mount Remarkable brought me to this car park in the bush. Also known as Battle Mountain, this place is very significant to the Kalkadoon people of the area. 

Kalkadoon

A unique war memorial to the Kalkadoon people who gave their lives defending their land on Australian soil near Mount Isa.

Remarkable Ridge

Remarkable Ridge near sunset. It is quite a striking spine of rock against the desert sky.

Serenity

Ahhh, the serenity. A beautiful landscape over the lake at sunset. Unfortunately the mosquitos disturb the serenity at this time of day near the water. But it was worth it for this picture perfect shot.

Stack City Stars

How many likes for this cloud? The cloud likes the photo and has given the thumbs up approval.

Honeyeater

This bird hanging around in the fading light of the evening is believed to be a White-Plumed Honeyeater (based on self-diagnosed Googling). Please let me know if I have misidentified it.

Waiting

While waiting for the Moon to rise I did some bird spotting. This Whistling Kite was happy to pose for a photo by the lake.

Eclipsed

The lunar eclipse in Mount Isa was eclipsed by cloud. That is the bright star Spica peeking through the gap, the Moon is just below.

Lunar

This was the Moon rise one day before the Lunar Eclipse of April 15. Unfortunately the eclipse was not visible at all in Mount Isa due to cloud. Luckily I had this photo of the Moon prepared earlier.

My Mountain

I must have lived here in a past life. There are two mountains named after me near Kynuna, Mount Grant and Mount Salmond.

Dinoroo or Kangasaurus?

A friend told me about a cool sign they had seen near Cloncurry. I, of course, immediately wanted to get a photo of said sign.

A spot to camp with some friends in the desert, by a beautiful river. The Gregory is a remarkable place.

Sooty Grunter

A Sooty Grunter on the line at the Gregory River. They are named due to the two distinctive features of being a bit greyish and their grunting when you pick them up.

Hooked!

I bet I know what this fish is thinking right now… That's an Archer Fish. They love the Gregory River just outside Mount Isa. (My GoPro needs optical correction underwater!)

Microwave

The microwave repeater on Telstra hill gazes silently over the landscape and into the aether.
