Chasing Waterfalls

One of the rare waterfalls that occurs in the Australian outback desert. The falls at Watarrka were running this year after a recent and unseasonal wet.

Outback To Stack

In the final five kilometres of the Outback to Stack event you get this sight as you near the stacks. 21.1 km is a long way to walk in just over three hours, let alone run it. Congratulations to all those who were out at 5am to give it a go. Proud to say I walked across the line third overall in approximately 3hrs15min.

Spinifex Doughnut

A walk inside the giant Tnorala Crater reveals some of these curious spinifex doughnuts. I remember reading a scientific article on why these patterns of spinifex appear, I can't remember where or why.

Crater Sunrise

Waiting a few more minutes after yesterday's photo, you see this magnificent sight. The first rays of sun glinting on the hills and trees in the morning.

Muddy Evidence

The evidence of hundreds of kilometres of driving through boggy sections of track along the Ghan Heritage way in the Territory and South Australia.

Quagmire

A quaggy bogmier just north of the Mount Dare Hotel. This was the beginning of a muddy section that went for around a kilometre. A few vehicles took on the mud and spun their wheels for hours to move a few hundred metres further toward their goal of crossing the Simpson Desert. We chose to turn around at this point and let the weather have its way.

Witjira

The remote Witjira National Park in South Australia. The road to here was boggy in places, but little did we know it was to get even boggier.

Aputula Finke

The town of Finke or Aputula in the Northern Territory was a marker on a route in to the old Ghan Heritage way south toward the Mount Dare Station in South Australia.

Geographic Centre

The Lambert's measure of the geographical centre of Australia. Unfortunately due to a bog hole and lack of time to walk, we did not reach this location on this trip. Next time...

Nocturnal Tracks

A recent road trip brought me into the Northern Territory of Australia. A beautiful place with many things to see.
