Brisbane

Brisbane

A visit to Brisbane would not be complete without a visit to Southbank Parklands and this sign which makes for a great photo opportunity to tell the world you were actually there.

Near Miss

Near Miss

This was an early opportunity for the Roar to go one up in their game against Wellington. The goal that won Brisbane the match was in the second half down the far end from my seat and I didn't have time to anticipate it and hit record. However, this was so close.

Brisbane Roars

Suncorp Stadium

My first visit to Suncorp Stadium (Old Laing Park) in Brisbane was to see a Football (Soccer) match between the Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix. This was just before the start of play.

Craning The Sky

Cranes

A large array of cranes on a site in Brisbane's CBD. That sure seems like a lot of cranes for just one site. However, there must be a lot to construct on here.

Cooroora Track

Cooroora Track

Some interesting trees near the top of the steep track up Mount Cooroora. The track is steep and eroded in parts, with steel stairs in exposed areas to reduce erosion and increase safety for the Pomona King of The Mountain race held each year in July.

Lake Monduran Downpour

Lake Monduran Downpour

I also visited Lake Monduran just north of Gin Gin and it started to really bucket down. I didn't even try to leave the car it was so heavy. The poor boaties had just begun to head home with the rain when it clearly soaked them more than they had expected. It was definitely some much needed rain for the region.

Driftwood Hut

Driftwood Hut

A driftwood hut on the waterfront at Burnett Heads. I can only imagine the pleasure of living here a hundred years ago before people over ran the place. It would have been quite serene.

Boolboonda Tunnel Signage

Boolboonda Tunnel

Boolboonda Tunnel Sign

The Boolboonda Tunnel Sign near the tunnel entrance. Constructed in 1883/84 and 192 metres long, drilled by hand through solid rock, so solid it has not required lining or supporting to this day.

Dune Flower

Beach Flowers

One of the many pretty flowers to be found on a sand dune. This one was at Burnett Heads in Bundaberg. It is known as Morning Glory, or Railroad Vine (Ipomoea).

Heads Or Tails?

Burnett Heads Light

The Maritime Light at Burnett Heads, the head of the Burnett River in Bundaberg. I wonder if anyone has ever traced back to visit the tail of the Burnett River, or headwaters of the river's origin?

Dry Isa Waterhole

Warrigal Waterhole

Today's photo comes from a guest photographer in Mount Isa. This is the very dry Warrigal Waterhole (Painted Rock). Normally this time of year in January, there have been some rains to start filling the local waterholes and creeks. This year however is clearly different. With the devastating fires across the country, the climate has also altered in deserts here in Mount Isa, making them drier than usual. Those brown trees at the back of the waterhole usually have a deep supply of water in the sand for their roots to sustain them. This is the driest I've seen it in the last 13 years. The patterns have changed. This is something us humans can no longer ignore. Action is required.

Coochin Twins

Coochin Twins

The Mount Coochin Twins as seen from Mount Ngungun. The Coochin Twins are a great alternative to the climb up Ngungun, and a path much less travelled.
