Aurora Spikes

Spikes of green and red can be seen in this shot of the Aurora Borealis. The light is so magical and enchanting as it dances across the sky. Cable Car

I took the cable car to see the view from the top of the hill.

Aurora Borealis

An hour's drive northwest of Tromsø with greenfoxguiding we came to this quiet spot by the arctic sea and waited patiently in the cool wind for the magnetic sky show to begin. We were graced by a wonderful display.

Polarlys

The Hurtigruten ship MS Polarlys and her crew pose for a photo before departing the port of Bodø on the northbound trip to Tromsø. The journey was delightful and the ship a veritable luxury cruise liner.

Viking Ship

A beautiful old Viking ship from many years ago, now preserved in the Oslo Viking Ship Museum. This place is well worth the time to visit, the history here is amazing.

Natural History Museum

The Great Hall in the Natural History Museum in London. Walking around here I was reading all the signs in my head using David Attenborough's voice. I was secretly hoping to see him pop around the corner on a private tour.

Thames Sunset

The lock at Richmond on the river Thames. The cost was five pounds to pass through as the weir was closed.

Holly Tree

Deck the halls with boughs of holly. This is a holly tree in Richmond Park. This stuff literally grows on trees over here.

A Nova star in Centaurus is currently visible to the naked eye. It is just above and to the left of the top pointer (Beta Centauri) in this photograph. See here for some labels.

Isa Christmas Tree

A variation on the Mount Isa Mines Christmas tree this year. They added Santa's hat to the zero on the head frame for Mount Isa's ninetieth Christmas.

Lightning Sequence

A series of lightning strikes hit the ground as a storm skirts to the north of Mount Isa.

Rain's A Comin'

A rain storm heads toward Mount Isa. Unfortunately it did not produce any rain on the town, however, it did fall near the lake.

Royal Flying Doctor Service

A mural depicting the Royal Flying Doctors soaring over the outback. I'm proud to say I had a hand in helping paint some of this mural at Buchanan Park. Some of my brushstrokes are left on the wall.

A very faint rainbow just south west of Mount Isa. A rare sight around here in the current drought.

Mica View

A view through a piece of transparent rock, otherwise known as mica. It must have been strange finding things like this on the ground before glass was discovered.

Behind The Mine

Behind the Mount Isa mine site on Mica Creek you can see this view. This particular afternoon included clouds which added something different to the panorama.

In the outback one always finds surprising pieces of artwork waiting to be observed.

Finding ISON

With a little help from my star app SkySafari and a digital zoom, I was able to locate comet ISON in this image at the bottom left corner of the zoom box. It really is there, just very tiny and faint. This was taken at approximately 4:30am Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Chasing ISON

Comet ISON is presently in the early morning sky before dawn near the bright star Spica, below and east of reddish Mars.  I tried getting a shot Sunday morning, but cloud obscured the view.

World Solar Challenge

Team Nuon Solar from the Netherlands leads the World Solar Challenge on Day 2 of the race from Darwin to Adelaide. The driver even gave us a thumbs up as he drove past.
