Lunar Eclipse

The 2007 total lunar eclipse was visible tonight in the Eastern sky.
This photo was not taken by my camera. A friend kindly loaned his camera and I was able to capture this shot with it. My Optio S7 unfortunately would not cooperate in taking shots that were so dark.

The centre of Townsville has a large rock looking over it. Castle Hill it is called.

Marina

If you looked closely at yesterday's photo you would have seen these masts hiding behind the garden. The tide was full and the water looked wonderful.

Gardening

The local council is keeping some very nice gardens by the shore front.

Townsville

We arrived at the village of towns airport 2 hours after leaving Mount Isa, right on schedule.

Reflection

I'm actually in this shot, although a bit distorted. Nice and shiny nose cone.

Trip

My work took me to Townsville for a day where I undertook some professional development. This was the plane as we boarded here in Mount Isa at the airport. A MacAir flight on a Saab 340.

KMart in the Night

When you get tired of holding the camera still, just move it. This was a fortuitous photo (full of alliteration too) of KMart shopping centre here in Mt Isa.

Fireworks

No self respecting Rodeo would be complete without fireworks. The fireworks were more impressive than what I have captured here though.

Sideshow Ride

Sideshow Alley

A trip to the Mt Isa Rodeo would not be complete without a visit to sideshow alley. This photo captures the bustling scene.

Mount Isa Mardi Gras

The Mount Isa Mardi Gras parade took place on the Friday night. The parade contained all manner of floats, bikes, local community groups and vehicles. This car with brightly coloured girls was one of the entries. I can't remember what they were promoting though.

Rodeo

The main arena at The Mount Isa Rodeo. Unfortunately I missed the bull coming out the gate, but you can see video of a ride here and here too.

Rodeo Entertainment

There was some live entertainment at the rodeo grounds. There was at least one audience member listening.

Mailman Express

The Mount Isa Rodeo is in town. This photo was taken while the horses were gathering for the time trial event called the Mailman Express (video here). Even when walking these horses move too much for my camera in the dark. It makes for an interesting photo nonetheless.

Out of Town

If you look from the hill out of town you see this wonderful vista.

Town From Sunset Hill

This photo was taken on a less traveled path. On the hill behind the suburb of sunset you can see the rodeo grounds in the centre filling with cars. The Mount Isa Rodeo is approaching.

Autogyro

When I took a photo of this autogyro, I couldn't help but think of TV's Simpson's family and laugh.

Mr Burns: "I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"

Post Office Attendant: "This book must be out of date. I don't see Prussia, Siam, or autogyro."

Luckily the autogyro is not out of date and makes for a very practical form of transport.
