Dry flood plains lie nearby to the secluded waterholes and gorges that trace out the path of this creek towards the sea in the north.

Starry Starry Night

On a night with a full moon the sky is so bright it looks just like daylight to the camera.

Slide Tracks

Evidence of freshwater crocodiles is there for the keen eye to see in the sand.

Gorge Proper

This is a proper gorge. Tall rock walls and a permanent water presence with freshwater crocodiles, archer fish and black bream that have never seen the likes of humans for many years.

Visitor

One such visitor is partly visible in this frame of some dried mud in the gorge at the base of the rock wall shown previously.

If Walls Could Talk

I imagine these rock walls would have many tales to tell of the millennia past, the seasons' change and the odd intrepid visitor who may dare to pass.

Natural Pool

A wonderful natural pool in the shade of a melaleuca tree.

Melaleuca

Melaleuca trees knocked down by floodwaters refuse to give up. The branches simply orient themselves against the direction of gravity and grow upwards again.

Star Pool

An impression of the stars partly reflected in a turkey's nest dam on Kalala station near Daly Waters in the Northern Territory. It was perfect timing for a trip to the Territory for astro shots in dark skies with a new Moon setting early.

Silhouette

The same termite mound as yesterday's post in silhouette. You'll notice the star trails are shorter. This is as long as I could get without any passing vehicle lights in the shot. It still makes for a nice shot but I prefer to see longer arcs.

Termite Trails

Star trails above a termite mound on the Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory. Part of the foreground and termite mound has been lit by road train headlights and my headlamp. It was a cold and windy night to be sure.
