Anchorage Rainbow

Returning to Gary's Anchorage I found this rainbow as some showers began to gather.

Little Woody Island

Made it as far north as Little Woody Island, but it did not provide enough shelter for my tiny boat in strong southerly winds to be comfortably anchored.

Kingfisher Bay

I took a day to run up the Great Sandy Strait and explore a little. I went past the Kingfisher Bay Jetty on my way north.

Dream Island

Sunset over Dream Island from Gary's Anchorage on the Great Sandy Strait, nestled into the western side of K'gari.

Wolf Rock

A quick trip to skirt past Wolf Rock from a safe distance. A research vessel was moored (anchored?) just off the rocky point. Apparently this is a hot spot for diving to see Grey Nurse Sharks.

Cruising To DI Point

Unfortunately all good things come to an end, and it was time to leave the safety of the Lagoon for a visit to Double Island Point proper. Perfect weather for a quick cruise out, followed by a visit to Wolf Rock and returning in the Wide Bay Bar before the swell picked up.

Lazy Mornings

I spent a lazy morning after a walk here reading a book. Then I realised I was beached and just had to wait around even longer. What a great place to relax.

Vertebra

The things you see on a morning walk. This vertebra was sitting on the beach above the tide line. If you happen to know what sort of creature this belongs to, please get in touch. It has a distinctive diamond shape.

Morning Walk

Time for a morning walk along the beach on the ocean side of the lagoon. Beautiful views back to Rainbow Beach.

Evening Anchorage

The evening grows cooler and the sky a darker shade of purple, then all of a sudden it is night time.

Idyllic Tranquility

Did I mention how idyllic the Double Island Point Lagoon was? This picture of a catamaran arriving in the calm anghorage tells all I believe.

Sundowner

A hot chocolate sundowner was the perfect way to warm up and enjoy the protected DI Lagoon evening.

DI Lagoon

The Double Island Point Lagoon is a wonderfully protected anchorage from all seas and winds from the north-west through to the south-east.

Carlo Sandblow

Got my first look at the Carlo Sandblow from the sea.

Rainbow Beach

The short trip to Double Island Point Lagoon from the Wide Bay Bar takes you past the coloured sands of Rainbow beach.

Wide Bay Bar

The K'gari ferriy and Inskip Point opened up to a fairly flat Wide Bay Bar and I could not pass up the weather opportunity to cross it and visit Double Island Point, so I did just that.

Departing Tin Can

I jumped at the chance for a holiday at home on the boat. So I loaded up and departed Tin Can Bay for the Great Sandy Strait and beyond.

Palm Defender

I hadn't taken a photo of the Defender for a while when this palm caught my attention walking back along the headland path from Mooloolaba.

Pacific Morning
