Moon Halo

Moon Halo

Tuesday night there was a bright halo around the Moon. It is caused by ice crystals in the thin cloud that refract (bend) the light rays from the Moon back toward the viewer like a lens.

Orion the hunter sets over Battle Mountain. Also known as the canoe to some Indigenous cultures of  northern Australia. The hunter appears to stand guardian over the mountain below. In a modern interpretation, the belt and sword of Orion could be seen as a giant mouse pointer in the sky

Brightly lit Jupiter sets behind the summit of Battle Mountain at the end of a warm clear day. This is a significant place for the Kalkadoon people of Western Queensland. It was the site of a lengthy battle between the Queensland police and Kalkadoon people in 1884.
