Pacific Dreaming

This is a view of the majestic and enormous Pacific Ocean as seen from Noosa Heads. The horizon leads to so many destinations across the world, that I can't help but dream of adventures that are possible.

USC Octopus

USC Octopus

A more complete view of the USC Big Octopus at the Solar Nights exhibit. Do Electric octopus dream of electric jellyfish? Do octopus even eat jellyfish? This raises more questions than you can poke a stick at.

Field Of Jellyfish

Field of Jellyfish

This large field of jellyfish was quite impressive to see. Which made me wonder, do electric jellyfish in fields have a field of dreams?

The University of the Sunshine Coast has a Solar Nights exhibit running for the next few days (and it's free). This was a close up of what I'm calling the Big Octopus.

Ngungun Car Park

Ngungun Car Park

When I arrived this morning to do some climbing at Ngungun there were cars all the way up past the white Subaru. The most overflowing I have ever seen the carpark here. It is a popular spot, and with good reason, the climbing is great and varied and there's a great walk with a beautiful view at the top.

BF Goodrich Tyre

BF Goodrich

This tyre must have seen all six of its landings as the plys are certainly worn from use. Who knew that BF Goodrich tyres had a history of aviation? Apparently it all started with the first tyre supplied to the Model A Ford and then the first non-stop Trans-Atlantic Crossing by Charles Lindbergh, then naturally, the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1981. A real all terrain tyre.

228 Knots 34 Ply 6 Landings

34 Ply 228 Knots

Some pretty amazing specs on these tyres for the Space Shuttle. 228 Knots is around 440km/hr, that's fast, no wonder so many plys are needed to hold the tyre together.

Frangible Nuts

Frangible Nuts

These nuts and bolts are what hold the Space Shuttle to the launch pad until the engines and boosters have ignited. Once the thrust is ramped up, the explosives are triggered and the nuts fracture allowing the shuttle to be released for launch.

Memory, What Memory?

Memory Module

This is a photo of the Memory Module used on the Saturn V launch rocket. The module on the left has 14 of the memory 'array chips' on the right. The thing is, each of those ferrite core wire arrays only has 1024 bits of memory available. That's just one kilobyte - and it's about the size of my phone. Technology has come a long way in just 50 years, imagine what the next 50 will bring.

Paper Beats Rock

In a real life struggle for dominance in the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, it is clear that paper really does beat rock as this example shows. This is at Little Rocky Creek near Landsborough.
