The Questacon roadshow came to town and they brought a truckload of fun science with them.

I finally know how to use an abacus to add numbers, thanks to the Questacon road show that visited Mount Isa last weekend.

The Questacon Science Circus roadshow came to Mount Isa. It was an awesome display to nerd up this town.

Bus Stop?

There's a bus stop where? At the Gregory River near Mellish Park camping area. Only operates once per year during the Canoe Race.

Dead Croc

A rather deceased, bloated and pungent freshwater crocodile floats down the Gregory River, missing some of its skin.

Gregory Rapid

A small rapid on the Gregory River. This was a fun little rapid in a canoe. I got wet, it was awesome.

A beautiful tree in the bush.

A long drive down a short track led to this spectacular gorge feature outside of Gunpowder.

Bush Resort

This is not the sign you expect to see in an old abandoned town in the bush. But believe me, there is indeed a pool and tennis court at old Gunpowder township.

Watch House

This is the old police watch house in Gundpowder. Not used anymore. It is the most solid timber building I've seen in quite a while.

Gunpowder State School

The old town of Gunpowder north of Mount Isa has a school. There's old classrooms in there that are no longer used. They have been converted into living quarters for miners who used to work there.

Skipping Stones

Skipping stones across Gunpowder Creek north of the Isa. Skipping stones across water reminds me of the movie Amelie.

Fire Damage

The Spinifex State College Senior Campus Library was destroyed by a fire on Saturday night. Only a fragile shell remains standing, awaiting demolition. A big thank you to the Fire Department who saved the neighbouring buildings.

Fireworks

The fireworks after the show are always a pretty sight.
